I realized as I was commenting on another blog the other day that the person I was offering helpful advice to had absolutely no reason to believe I knew what I was talking about. She didn’t know me from Eve, except for what she’d read on my blog, which isn’t much. Originally, my intent was to write this blog as anonymously as possible. I don’t know why exactly. I guess I was worried about people judging me? But now, that just seems silly. So here’s a little info about who I am…
I am a mom of 5 boys. Over the years I have also housed and “co-parented” 8 other children at various times. I’ve been babysitting since I was 12 and ran my own summer day camp by the time I was 16. I have a degree in education, have taught everything from Pre-K to 6th grade, and was an assistant director at a Montessori charter school. I’ve been a PTA vice-president. I’ve volunteered with numerous non-profits. I am the committee secretary of my boys’ Boy Scout Troop. Back in high school, my friends gave me a #1 MOM mug because I always mothered them too. So I’ve been a mom since before I had kids. It’s just who I am.
I grew up immersed in what is now called the “New Age Movement.” My parents raised me to be open-minded and accepting of others’ belief systems. I have been working with new age ideas and techniques quite literally since my birth. But as I grew up in the Bible belt, I was also cautioned to keep my beliefs to myself as they didn’t quite jibe with the typical church-going Southern Baptist types that were common in our area. So I’m always impressed when I see/read people who aren’t afraid to be open about their beliefs.
Now, I think it’s past time to be more open about who we are and what we think. I think the wild success of blogging, in general, is a clear demonstration of that. So, for the record, I believe in reincarnation and karma. I believe we create our own realities. I believe the essence of everything is energy and that we can influence that energy with the energy of our thoughts. I believe in life after death. I believe in angels and spirit guides. I believe we are all beings of spirit and light that are having a human experience. I believe we are capable of so much more than we know.
Currently, I manage a metaphysical bookstore & gift shop. It is the second such store that I’ve managed. The first being, what was then, the largest metaphysical bookstore west of the Mississippi. My current store is attached to a conference center which allows me to meet and talk with some of the top minds in the New Age / New Thought field. In the past, I’ve worked as a professional “psychic” – though I prefer the term “reader” as I think it more accurately describes the work, which is simply reading and interpreting energy. Now, I only “read” for friends, though I’m told that will change.
My job also involves planning and running regular Mind, Body, Spirit Fairs, which means that I head a panel of folks whose job is to test psychics/readers before they are accepted for participation in our events. I get lots of readings. I meet lots of people. I read LOTS of books. As such, if I’m recommending a book or person or service in my blog – or really if I even mention it by name – you can trust that it’s something/someone that I think highly of and hopefully I’ve demonstrated that I have enough experience to know what I’m talking about.
I also really like creative fiction writing. I probably have at least a half-dozen novels that I’ve started but never finished. I’ve posted a few excerpts here and hope to post more. Maybe that will help me do more writing and get something finished!
So, welcome to the blog. I hope you’ll stick around and let’s see what it becomes!
